Are You Looking for Support?
You may already have an autism diagnosis, whether recent or from years ago, or you may identify as autistic through self-diagnosis. Sometimes a loved one might encourage exploring support from a therapist experienced in autism. You might be seeking guidance with changes and transitions, navigating personal or professional relationships, building new connections, strengthening communication skills, or creating routines and organizational strategies that work for you. Every autistic person is unique, with their own experiences, strengths, and challenges. In some cases, family members or partners may also wish to learn communication strategies, deepen their connection, and better understand their loved one.
Understanding Your Experience
Autistic people often experience the world in ways that can be both rewarding and challenging. Many find that the stress comes less from being autistic and more from living in environments not designed with neurodivergent needs in mind. This might look like burnout from masking, difficulty in sensory-unfriendly settings, or challenges in communicating with those who think differently. You may also find that transitions, time management, or organization require extra support. For family members and partners, it can mean wanting to strengthen communication, deepen connection, and better understand their loved one.
What Can You Do?
With over 20 years of experience as a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, I support autistic individuals and their loved ones in ways that honour their strengths while addressing areas of need. Counselling can be a space to explore self-understanding, build self-acceptance, and reduce burnout from masking. Together we can work on unmasking safely, navigating emotions, building communication strategies, problem-solving, and finding environments and routines that work for you.
Counselling also offers validation where you may have experienced invalidation, while providing practical tools and insights that can reduce stress and anxiety and support a more fulfilling life. For spouses and loved ones, whether neurodivergent or neurotypical, counselling can create opportunities to strengthen understanding, improve communication, and deepen connection.
If you’d like support from someone who understands different ways of thinking and experiencing the world, I encourage you to book a consultation and take the first step toward support that fits you.
